Any person that has been to Bali, knows how important art, music and drama are to the every day lives of the Balinese and an integral part of Balinese Culture.
Every year, the Balinese celebrate their culture and art, with a month long art festival. This year the festival runs from June 13, 2015 until July 11, 2015, and is held at the Werdi Budaya Art Center in East Denpasar. Each day of the festival you can see performances of Balinese Dance, Music, Gamelan, Drama, see the handicrafts produced across Bali, or sample local foods, For visitors to Bali during this period if you really want to get a taste of Balinese Culture and Balinese Arts, this is an event that should not be missed.
Aside, from performances from local artists there will also be performances from art and music groups from outside Bali, including Java, Aceh, Lombok, the United States and other Countries. Each day during the festival there are more than 5 public performances scheduled, featuring Balinese Gamelan performances (winners of cross Bali Gamelan Competitions), re-enactment (reconstruction) of Balinese dance drama, covering mythic Hindu epic stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, Balinese Mask dances, Barong Sae, Wayang (shadow puppets), movie Screenings of Documentaries about Bali, and contemporary Balinese music.
During the festival, the exhibition halls will feature local handicrafts from each region of Bali, and workshops are scheduled covering Balinese clothing, flower arrangement and coconut leave weaving (Janur). The festival opening ceremony will be on 2:00 pm on June 13, 2015 and kicks off with a grand parade starting in front of the Balinese People Struggle Monument (Bajra Sandhi) in Renon, Denpasar.
