The Jazz Market by The Sea 2014 is known for being a community based event bringing the likeminded and those who are passionate under one roofjazz reunions or “event” headliners, “We want to make good musical acts accessible to the public without the exclusivity. It is a down to earth festival, giving Bali locals and visitors a chance to see artists you normally wouldn’t see in a beautiful Balinese market setting’’, We’re trying to go with bigger stories this year, Astari Siswanto as the Festival Producer Founder said, “giving Bali locals and visitors a chance to see artists you normally wouldn’t see in a beautiful Balinese market setting.
The festival will be held at Taman Bhagawan, north of Nusa Dua. Jazz music collaborations are again a big part of the festival, blending jazz with traditional Balinese performance art and music. Among the local influences are the famous kecak dance, the ukulele-like instrument keroncong, and gamelan ensembles.
The 2014 festival goes green, with Minister of Environment endorsing environmental awareness activities in the 3-day event. Environmental elements will be showcased throughout the event by creating awareness through interactive activities and engagements. Musical performances using recycled goods, nature themed workshop, plant a pot/ interaction with animals/ painting nature and various activities for children, and stalls introducing green or organic products and for the first time, introduce waste management program during the 3-day festival.
KRAKATAU REUNION - KRAKATAU is a significant name in Indonesia Jazz community. From early 1985 to early 1990s, KRAKATAU was respected as a true star on jazz stage everywhere with best-selling records. They decided to reunite, creating excitements from their fans both young and old. Donny Suhendra, Prasadja Budi Dharma, Trie Utami, Indra Lesmana, Dwiki Dharmawan and Gilang Ramadhan will definitely give a great performance, with the six of them on stage together. Prepare to watch and enjoy their successful fusion jazz band perform during the JM2014 event!
TULUS - Tulus made a very special music where he continued showing his passion in jazz without having to go too hard in it. He brings the side of jazz which is enjoyable, loveable and relaxing to listen by wider segment of music listeners, with his single “Sewindu” in 2011. “Musik Tulus” is the kind of music that’s very friendly to everyone’s ears. Enjoy his steady crooning voice and you will find the music easy to love as well during the JM2014.
MONITA TAHALEA - Monita is a well know name in the vocalists community, as she has been singing since 2005, but made her mark as a jazz singer when she released her single album, Dream, Hope & Faith, produced by Indra Lesmana, which is described as jazzy, gloomy, and melancholy mood. Monita’s key characteristic is simplicity in appearance that matches her voice. See her performance live on JM2014.
Other big names include Alexa, Gugun Blues Shelter, Koko Harsoe, and BID (Balawan, Ito Kurdhi, Deva) and other veteran jazz eccentrics and many others.
Organizers take pride in the fact that this year’s Jazz Market by the Sea is more than just a showcase for jazz musicians and includes art and education activities. At the festival will be a music coaching area, where bands and music schools will work with audiences to raise musical awareness and encourage youngsters to consider taking up instruments. Other activities include workshops, discussions and sessions with musicians in which they will share their life story with their fans.
This year has seen new features added to enrich the whole festival. Bali’s original winery, Hatten Wines, will have a grape crushing session. Independence Day Activities such as Panjat Pinang, Lomba Makan Kerupuk, Lomba Balap Karung can also be enjoyed the last day.
