Sanur a bustling beachside area renowned for its beachside charm and bustling streets, is located to the north east of the airport, approximately 25 minutes drive from both the airport and Kuta. Although not so long ago, Sanur would have been described as a small village, it has, over a period of many years, transformed into a bustling village with streets filled with café’s, restaurants and an incredible selection of shops, top hotels and art galleries. The area is often referred to as a beachside extension of Denpasar. This is in fact true, but once you have discovered the central area of Sanur you will understand that it does not have much in common with the Denpasar area. Sanur is characterised by its creative, slow moving pace which sees expats and visitors alike chose to wander the streets browsing in eclectic shops, rent bicycles with the sole aim of meandering slowly along the winding streets, or sit relaxing in a street-side coffee shop reading a book. It is precisely these qualities that attract the international selection of artists and expatriate retirees that choose to call this area home.

Restaurants & Nightlife
30 years ago, to get good international food you need to go to five stars hotel’s restaurants. But now Sanur is home to many small, reasonably priced and friendly restaurants which serving tasty local and a mix of various international cuisines. But mostly some good restaurants are located at the beachfront so the guess can enjoy the meal with beach atmosphere. However, Sanur has a great list of various restaurants from local until western food.
Apart from Adora, Sanur is not famous for its nightlife entertainment, but there are a few things going on. Sanur nightlife is basically the local bar and restaurant scene. Each restaurant has its own events such as life band performances every particular night. If Sanur isn’t lively enough for you, jump into a cab and head to Kuta (nightclubs located at Jl. Legian) or to Seminyak (bars & nightclubs located at the end of Jl. Double Six and at Jl. Dhyana Pura).
The beach is a lovely spot to watch the peaceful Bali sunrise. Surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, and snorkelling are just some of the water sports available to give you your water-loving thrill. Prasasti Blanjong, an ancient stone pillar that illustrates the interesting past history of Sanur. Enshrined in the glass case at the back of Pura Blanjong in Jalan Danau Poso, the stone dates back to 913 AD. Sanur Village Festival, is an annual event usually held during the month of August. Cultural activities, community market stalls and food dominates this festival activities. There is a chance to observe traditional performances, a colourful and educational parade, and live music, water sports and the delicious food festival as the main attractions. The must see attraction is the kite flying competition. Kite Festival, a beautiful event that is held during July on Padang Galak Beach. A gamelan orchestra plays music throughout the festival to help encourage the teams. This event is a seasonal religious festival intended to send a message to the Hindu Gods to create abundant crops and harvests. Turtle Island (Serangan) is recommended. Hire a boat for a close encounter with these beautiful sea creatures.
Activities in Sanur
Surfing. The wave most like to catch in Sanur is way out on the reef, so you will need to paddle out. Some surfers choose to pay a fisherman to take them out to the reef to save time. The best spot to surf in this area is at Padang Galak beach. Water sports such as kite surfing; kayaking and snorkelling can all be enjoyed in this area because the current and wind conditions are perfect for these sports. Gym, tennis and squash, are options if you are staying in a hotel with the facilities.
Grand Bali Beach Golf Course Try you hand at this somewhat challenging 9-hole, short flat golf course. Massage and Spa, are a popular option for relaxation all over Bali, but the smaller shop front massages and spa therapy centres are very assessable and popular in the Sanur area. You might also like to try some of the spas in the top hotels. The prices aren’t radically different – but the services you receive are a world away. Bali Orchid Garden is a popular place to view orchids. Bali has hundreds of varieties of orchid for you to admire. It’s located on the Bypass in Tohpati at the northern end of Sanur. Le Mayer Museum, features a good variety of the famous Belgian artist Le Mayer. Le Mayer’s paintings are painted using either or both oil and watercolours. Most of his paintings are reflective of the love story between himself and Bali’s last Dancer, Ni Polok. Their story is one of the most famous love stories in Bali.
Jalan Danau Tamblingan is Sanur’s main street for shopping. It has a relaxed atmosphere that allows you to wander along without too many hassles. Along this street, as well as throughout Sanur, there are numerous high-end shops that sell quality and stylish clothes. If you want tourist-oriented handicrafts, woodcrafts and other types of products then head over to Pasar Seni and Sanur’s art market.
Sanur (Indonesian:Pantai Sanur, pronounced sah-noor) is a coastal stretch of beach of Denpasar city of southeast Bali, about 30 minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport, which has grown into a little town in its own right.
